Sweet, Succulent, Sexy: Erotic Edibles
In a recent interview, the host asked me for suggestions for the listeners of some fall foods that would stoke sexual fire and inspire play with partners. I was pleasantly surprised by his question, as I had not talked about my history as a chef or my cookbook, Food for the Light Body, in a long time. Being a very sensual person, I know that food is inextricably linked to arousal, and yet I had not recently had conversations about this with my current audience.
One of the sexiest moments of my life was when a lover approached me, by surprise, with a mouthful of pomegranate seeds and kissed me passionately. As he did, the juice poured out of my mouth, down my neck, and into the crevasse between my breasts. Both the surprise of it and the full engagement of all of my senses at once evoked instantaneous turn on. It is deeply engrained in my memory as an incredibly erotic moment.
The more senses we simultaneously engage, the more alive our experience is. Eating food can evoke the same degree of pleasure, ecstasy and satisfaction as our sexual experiences. Being both linked to desire and our senses, as well as our animalistic nature, food and sex are obvious companions in the queendom of pleasure.
Why not bring the two together intentionally?
Why not use food as a way to arouse our lovers and ourselves before, during, and after making love?
Although the personal experience I shared above was such a powerful and ecstatic one for me, I did not continue to bring food into my sex play afterwards. Being a chef, I did consciously prepare food as the beginning path to seduction. However, the overt relationship between food and sex stopped at the dinner table. To be honest, I just didn’t really think about it. It wasn’t until later in my life that I wanted to recreate the power of my past experience and became more curious about food, sex, and arousal.
Here are 5 aphrodisiac foods to bring to bed with you and explore:
Pomegranate, of course
Dark Chocolate, melted
Figs, obviously!
Bananas, the male counterpart
Watermelon, the surprise
These 5 foods are not only super sexy to explore in your mouth and on your body, they also have specific nutrients that stoke the libido.
· Watermelon contains citrulline, which relaxes the blood vessels.
· Bananas intensify orgasms with potassium.
· Figs are rich with amino acids and increase sexual stamina.
· Chocolate (minus dairy) boosts our feel good” serotonin levels.
· Pomegranates are high in anti-oxidants, boosting blood flow and increasing genital sensitivity.
There are several other foods that have chemical components to boost libido. As far as I’m concerned any food can be an aphrodisiac. If it turns you or your lover on, go for it. This is about exploring and opening to an even fuller sensual experience. Get playful and uninhibited. Indulge in the erotic nature of Mother Earth’s fruits, and remember the element of surprise amplifies the already succulent sexiness that naturally exists.
Dare to Desire!
